We bought a house from a woman, who originally bought it at auction and her intent was to flip and resell it. After starting the work on the house (she replaced the windows, added siding on 3/4ths of the house, and gutted the upstairs) she become ill and had to sell it. We caught wind of the property and made the decision to purchase it, flip it, and call it our home. In March 2015 we started this project, and completed the interior around May 2016, completing the exterior in Fall 2018.
We started by gutting the house, down to the studs and floor joists, ripping up the floor in the basement, and starting from scratch on almost everything. We had a lot of help from existing friends, new friends, family, and some minimal hired help. With everyone's support, hard work, and advice, we managed to do the following:
- water-proofed basement, including new floor
- brand new floors, drywall and ceiling in the remainder of the house
- new HVAC unit and duct work
- new electrical, including lights that can be controlled from a smartphone
- new plumbing and fixtures
- new stairs
- new kitchen and appliances
- removal of porch and old, storage rooms
- new roof
- removal of a load bearing wall to create a more open floor plan and additional 1/2 bath and closet
- Insulated the entire house
Here are some before and after pictures to show how far we came in this project. Enjoy!
